Charter Day

STOP PRESS!!

We’ve received the following from John:

Greetings All
There is to be a repeat of David Preshous’ play ‘Shades from the Past’ at Sparc on Thursday October 19th. The organisers are hoping we could do The Charter Song again as part of the evening.
Please let your singers know, and perhaps you could give me a rough idea of how many might be interested.
More details in the fulness of time.
Many thanks

The play was sold out during the Charter Celebration event and was well worth seeing, even without our wonderful singing – we’re sure we’ll add a lot to the evening if we can muster a group to perform the song once more.

Could you give it some thought please, and let us know whether you’re available.

And, in case you couldn’t make it, or simply can’t remember (unlikely, we know), here’s a recording made by Donna Salisbury, in church, on the day……

Enjoy!

BISHOPS CASTLE CHARTER DAY CELEBRATION

On Sunday July 16th Bishop’s Castle is celebrating the 450th anniversary of the granting of its Town Charter by Queen Elizabeth I. John Kirkpatrick has been commissioned to write a song for the occasion, and the intention is that members of all the choirs and singing groups who meet in and around the town will combine to perform the piece at various points during the afternoon.

Here you can find the words, music, a synthesised version of the song, and John’s separate vocal recordings of all the harmony parts.

  1. Have a look at the words first, to see the background to the different sections and to get an idea of the structure.
  2. Listen to the synthesised version to get used to the tunes.
  3. If you read music, download the score and sing away.
  4. If you don’t, or you’re not quite sure, listen to the individual parts one by one and decide which line suits you and your voice. These recordings give the song in short sections, but on the day there will be no gaps, and the various components will be joined together by short links on the accordion.

People are being encouraged to dress up in Elizabethan costume for the day, but as there might be hundreds of us singing this it would be impossible to kit everybody out. But please try and wear something in the Tudor colours of red, white, and green.

We’ll be letting you know about arrangements for rehearsals so please keep an eye on your emails.

Good luck!!

Erratum:

There is a mistake in the words in the music score.

Verse 1, Bar 24/25 should read “All through the town”, not “Through all the town”.

The words are correct on the “Words” page.

Sorry!
